Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health by improving social and political systems. It includes environmental, economic, technical, educational and legislative measures.
The Bachelor of Applied Public Health will give you the skills to improve population health, whether it’s to a handful of people or across several continents.
You will learn how to:
- apply a rigorous evidence-based approach to understand disease determinants
- plan effective solutions through policy, legislation and advocacy
- develop and manage public health programs for populations, communities and individuals
The Bachelor of Applied Public Health will give you up to 300 hours of valuable professional placements, concentrated in the third year of the course. Some placements will be available during summer recess, and there are opportunities for interstate or international experience.

The course incorporates up to 300 hours of professional placements, concentrated in the third year of the course. Some placements will be available during summer recess, and there are opportunities for interstate or international experience.
As part of your course, you will be placed in a range of organisations to integrate the theory you learn with practical workplace experiences (placements). As part of your enrolment, you must complete the Faculty of Health Sciences pre-placement requirements. To ensure you meet these requirements you need to start as soon as possible. Careers
Graduates can enter a wide range of public health careers, such as:
- public health officer
- community development worker
- epidemiologist
- policy analyst
- program evaluator
- health educator
- project officer and consumer advocate
within a variety of organisations such as:
- government health departments
- population health units
- community health centres
- non-governmental health organisations (NGOs)
- advocacy groups
- international health agencies.
Students with a Student Visa will need to complete the program in minimum duration, study at least one subject on-campus each semester and must not undertake more than 33% of the program online.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants must have minimum aggregate score of 7. Ranks on the GCE are calculated on the basis that at the Advanced Level (A2): A=6, A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, and must include results in minimum of two advanced Level (A2) and up to two (2) at Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS) subjects. AS Level subject is half of that assigned at Advanced Level (A2) – A=3, A=2.5, B=2, C=1.5, D=1, E=0.5. Subjects at Advanced Level (A2) must be taken in the same academic year. AS Level subjects may be taken in the same or previous academic year. A subject taken at both AS Level and Advanced Level is only counted once for aggregate score. Applicants must have must have the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 Certificate. English Language Requirements: Overall IELTS score of 6.0 (with an individual score of 6.0 in writing and speaking; 5.5 in listening and reading); Pearson Test of English (PTE): 50 with a minimum of 50 in writing and speaking and a minimum of 42 in reading and listening; Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic (TOEFL): Internet based total of 60: minimum 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 8 in reading and 7 in listening; ACU English Language Test: C (60-64%); Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Overall CAE of 169 (Minimum score of 169 in writing and speaking and 162 in listening and reading).
