The Loyola University Chicago entrepreneurship program provides students with the necessary real-world insights to compete in today’s business world. Either as new venture entrepreneurs or corporate professionals, students learn that innovation and problem solving are critical characteristics for success. Loyola also offers an entrepreneurship minor degree for both business and non-business majors.
About the Entrepreneurship Department
Entrepreneurship faculty members bring cutting-edge research and practice to the classroom. Students learn about the latest developments in entrepreneurship research, work with the most innovative start-ups of the entrepreneurial community in Chicago, and consult with social enterprises that do well by doing good. Quinlan entrepreneurship faculty members have published their research in well-known academic journals and led incubators, for-profit ventures, and social enterprises.
Goal
The goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurship program is to prepare students to plan, launch, and grow a new venture, whether organized as a for-profit, nonprofit, or a social venture.
Outcomes
At the completion of the program, graduates will be prepared to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset.
- Develop an understanding of how to translate ideas into viable products or services.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to launch and grow a new venture.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of core business operational skills and their systemic working relationship.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively market as it relates to entrepreneurial ventures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the various channels and tactics entrepreneurs use to attract customers and how it changes over time.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of international markets.
- Demonstrate the application of research to scan for international business opportunities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of international barriers to entry (laws, culture, monetary values).
- Demonstrate an understanding of what is social entrepreneurship and how it differs from traditional entrepreneurship as well as nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basics of how to build and manage a successful social venture.
- Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
