專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?
Energy, agriculture, conservation, ecological restoration, climate change adaptation, transportation, water conservation, brownfield redevelopment, storm water management, open space planning—these are some of the complex challenges facing society that occur at the interface of environmental science and public policy. The need for individuals with literacy and skills relevant to both environmental science and public policy has never been greater. The IES dual degree programs with the Master of Public Policy (MPP) prepare graduates to meet these challenges effectively in careers in government, non-profit organizations, and businesses.
These dual degree programs begin with a broad, interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum drawing on courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and business. Undergraduate service-learning, internships, research, and study abroad provide students with rich, experiential learning opportunities. Students then develop more in-depth understanding of policy issues and the professional skills necessary to influence policy outcomes as part of their graduate studies.
The MPP degree requires 37 credit hours of coursework—12 three-credit courses, which includes a three-credit internship or capstone experience, plus a one-credit Professional Development class. This is a professional degree program; it does not require a thesis but rather an internship or capstone experience, which allows students to apply the skills developed in the program and gain work-related experience.
