Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences, General Studies, your education doesn't have to either.
You will have the opportunity to shape your program of study by choosing from a variety of classes that focus on areas including leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, management, health and technology. You will be able to create an education that best suits your interests while helping you to develop important skills for career advancement.
This degree program is offered completely online to provide you with the ability to take classes while meeting your daytime commitments. You'll be taught by the same distinguished UA faculty members who teach on campus - many of whom have also achieved great success working in their respective fields - as they guide you through this unique program of study.
This program is designed for those interested in pursuing careers in consumer services including government, communication and human services. Shape the path for your degree with a Bachelor's in HES, General Studies.
The purpose of this program is to give the student with specific career goals an opportunity to develop an innovative program of study with a focus on at least one area within the College. Each student majoring in general studies is expected to file a program of study prior to the completion of 100 hours and in accordance with the following guidelines:
The proposed course of study must include 120 hours, including the state wide general studies requirements, The University of Alabama Core Curriculum requirements, and the College of Human Environmental Sciences core.
- The proposed course of study must give evidence that the student has built a cohesive structure of interrelated ideas around a focus within the College of Human Environmental Sciences and must include a minimum of 35 hours of coursework offered by the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
- At the time of submission, the proposal must include a statement of approval by a faculty advisor chosen from the area of specialization.
- The proposal must indicate that the student has examined the relationship of the proposed program to his or her career goals and post-graduation plans.

International applicants must submit an official qualifying English Proficiency test score: TOEFL iBT score of 79 and above; TOEFL paper-based score of 550 and above; IELTS score of 6.0 or above; Pearson’s Test of English score of 54 or above; Duolingo English Test score of 51 or above.
