The purpose of the Educational Neuroscience B.S. Program is to train future educational practitioners, administrators, and researchers in the interdisciplinary field of educational neuroscience. The rapidly expanding area of behavioral neuroscience has led to new ways of understanding the learning process and the conditions under which learning occurs. Tomorrow’s educators will need to be well-versed in these new research traditions in order to be better able to design and deliver instruction.
The College of Education strives for a record of accomplishment in teaching, research, and service that not only addresses state and regional interests, but also national and international ones.
The unit prepares practitioners committed to improving the intellectual and social conditions of the people in the state of Alabama and beyond, as well as to understanding the purposes of education by engaging in the ongoing processes of reflection and dialogue that lie at the heart of socially responsible, theoretically informed, and research based practice. The unit’s mission is to offer exemplary professional programs to prepare educators to be effective decision makers who facilitate student learning. In fulfilling this mission, the unit recruits high-quality candidates and encourages them to become self-directed, lifelong learners. It also provides comprehensive instructional programs and fosters educational research and service to enhance policy-making and professional development at state, regional, national, and international levels. The mission is also aligned with the unit’s conceptual framework, consistent with the University’s wider mission and responsive to CAEP (formerly NCATE), state, and national standards of professional practice.

International applicants must submit an official qualifying English Proficiency test score: TOEFL iBT score of 79 and above; TOEFL paper-based score of 550 and above; IELTS score of 6.0 or above; Pearson’s Test of English score of 54 or above; Duolingo English Test score of 51 or above.
