This course provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary postgraduate study of health and global environmental issues. Management of interrelationships between the health of the environment and the public is a significant challenge for the 21st century. You will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in planning and decision-making to improve the health of populations at global and national levels. On successfully completing this course, you can enter into a career in the sector of modern environmental and public health practice, or continue your professional development.
We aim to develop graduates who are able to play a leading role in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of health and environmental policy initiatives. Successful completion of this course will enable you to cope better with rapid social, technological and organisational change through promoting an understanding of relevant concepts. This course also develops your critical and analytical ability in relation to global environmental issues and public health.
You will:
- Develop critical and analytical powers in relation to health-specific topics with global relevance
- Learn implementation of the theories behind health and the global environment
- Understand the role and impact of a range of stakeholders and institutions influencing global health
Teaching:
Teaching is delivered through lectures, with some by visiting practitioners; fieldwork; site visits; seminars and tutorials. You will also be provided with opportunities to review practical applications of environmental interventions designed to promote public health. You will have opportunity to work with an organisation and/or relevant stakeholder on an authentic project thereby enhancing networking with external clients while applying your input to a real-world interaction.
Assessments:
Each module is assessed individually through coursework including formative and summative assessments. Modular assignments may involve working with external stakeholder organisations on projects linked to investigating and managing public health needs, environmental performance and/or environmental health risk.
CAREER LINKS:
The course emphasises the development of professional skills and capabilities supplemented by practice-based learning opportunities. Your employability is developed through project work with external clients and through opportunities to work on a specific business problem for your dissertation.
At the University of Salford we pride ourselves in our research and encourage our students to explore topics that are exciting and inspiring, contributing useful findings to the field. If you are already working in the sector, completing a dissertation may also provide you with an opportunity to examine areas which might inform and guide your working practice, allowing you to share new insights with your colleagues. Examples of recent projects include: evaluation of the effectiveness of smoking cessation services for pregnant women in a local authority; development of internal audit systems on hygiene and safety standards for the operator of small care homes, and assessment of compliance with environmental and safety standards for a laboratory handling infectious biological agents.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a reputable Chinese university with a GPA of 2.4/4.0 or a final grade of 60% or above will be considered for postgraduate study. Applicants who have completed a higher education self study graduation certificate (zi’kao) with a final grade of 70% or above, and at least two years of relevant work experience, will be considered for postgraduate study. We require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
