在這里學什么?
Biophysics is an interdisciplinary science that applies the approaches and methods of physics to study biological systems. Biophysics covers all scales of biological organization, from molecular to organismic and populations.
Program Objectives
One of the primary responsibilities of the physics department is to educate the next generation of scientists, engineers and scientifically informed citizenry through research-intensive education in the physical sciences and related technologies. Students will learn and apply the simple, basic principles that allow us to understand all parts of biomedical science.
Biophysics majors are trained for a career in interdisciplinary life science. Thus, students will demonstrate and take part in: Academic Excellence: Students will demonstrate proficiency in academic study of principles that form the basis of physics (i.e., classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics), as well as chemistry and biology; Real-World Experience: Students will demonstrate use of basic laboratory equipment and demonstrate ability to use basic computational techniques; Communication and Collaboration: Students will discuss, design and carry out experiments, both individually and in groups, to answer basic questions or to demonstrate basic principles. They will also effectively communicate results through written reports and oral presentations.
Learning Outcomes
If you are interested in problem-solving and research-focused education, the Applied Physics Program will offer you an engaging and challenging opportunity. While students in the Biophysics B.S. Program learn a wide range of skills and knowledge, we specifically aim for our students to meet the following learning outcomes: An understanding of the various fields and specializations encompassed by the field of biophysics; An ability to conduct and participate in research relevant to the student’s area of program specialization; An ability to successfully apply professional communication, organization and time management skills; An ability to problem-solve both as an individual and as part of a team; An ability to identify and utilize evidence-based resources and information; An ability to think critically and creatively about modern issues in the STEM field; An ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of the following subject areas: physics, mathematics, biology, and chemistry; Recognition and understanding of best practices relevant to the student’s area of program specialization; An understanding of professional ethics; An ability to connect textbook and classroom content to the real-world application.
