Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies (LLSS) is a multidisciplinary program committed to:
- The study of the social and political contexts of education.
- Scholarly inquiry using qualitative, critical, and innovative research methodology.
- Valuing differences of class, race, ethnicity, language, gender, sexual orientation, disability and age as sources of leadership and expertise.
- Creating a community of educators devoted to social justice.
Literacy and Language Arts
The Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies (LLSS) doctoral and masters degree programs offer a specialization in Literacy and Language Arts. Students in this area are able to conduct research and study theory, pedagogy, and curriculum development in literacy and language arts, pre-K through college. This includes courses in reading, writing, language arts, and related areas, in school and community settings. The program also encourages students to explore educational issues across cultures and linguistic groups.

Minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a U.S. 4.0 scale or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) university course work and in any graduate work already completed. TOEFL (internet-based) 79, TOEFL (paper-based) 550, IELTS 6.5, Pearson Test of English 53.
