Overview
CCM’s Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education prepares future music teachers to serve as leaders in elementary and secondary schools. Prestigious faculty, performance opportunities and location in one of the country’s premier cities for the arts make this program the perfect choice for music education students looking to maximize their talents and gain an incomparable musical and academic education as they prepare to become pre-K–12 school music teachers.
Through an initial core program and three available specialty tracks (jazz, instrumental and choral/general), students develop functional, realistic music teaching skills. Students gain breadth and experience by working in Cincinnati’s diverse offering of music teaching settings (i.e., urban and suburban, school-based and community-based, public and private) and benefit from high quality professional-pedagogical preparation, a strong program of liberal education and experiences available in a conservatory environment. Students apply for and receive a special provisional license from the state of Ohio, permitting them to teach music pre-K–12. Through reciprocity agreements, this license is valid in many other states.
Music Education graduates and faculty have a major impact on the musical life of the city, the region and the nation as school music teachers, community arts personnel, church musicians and faculty members at colleges and universities. This profession also is fundamental to many other musical careers, whether player, singer, coach, conductor or composer. The program boasts a **** employment rate.
CCM is a college within the University of Cincinnati, a major undergraduate university and graduate research institution of more than 40,000 students. Recommended: foreign language, anatomy and physiology or a third unit in social science with a grade of C or better in all required courses; Recommended minimum high school GPA of 3.0; Completed application and official high school or preparatory school transcripts.
