Mechanical engineers are involved in the creation of almost anything man-made that you encounter; whether it is the car you drive, the potato chips you eat, or the heating and air-conditioning system that keeps you comfortable, a mechanical engineer helped create it.
Our program emphasizes open-ended project activities with hands-on “design and build” experiences that will begin your freshman year in classes such as Introduction to Design, followed by Introduction to Manufacturing with a significant machine shop component. These experiences will continue throughout your studies and correspond to the theory you’re learning. As a senior, this practical experience will culminate in your capstone design project where you will work as a team on an industry sponsored design project that you will present at the MAE Design Showcase in front of students, family, alumni, academy members, and industry professionals.
All required mechanical engineering classes are taught every semester with each having at least 2-3 sections available. This makes the class size smaller, with a typical class size of 50 students. Our lecture courses are taught by full time faculty members, who are readily available for one-on-one interaction with the students. Through technical electives you will also have the opportunity to broaden or focus your degree on course work in areas like automation, robotics, engines, energy, rapid prototyping, and virtual reality manufacturing.
