Forensic Science is the degree for the 21st century and UWindsor’s program is ahead of its time. We’ll train you to investigate crimes ranging from homicide to abuse, and from fraud to hacking. We have the latest technology - biometrics with facial emotions, GSR, eye tracker, laser scanners for crime scene investigation, crime scene reconstruction, computerized fingerprint analysis, video spectral comparator for security document analysis, Medical Design studio for pathological investigations as well as sound analysis and identification. We supplement your classroom learning with outdoor and indoor mock crime scenes and labs. You’ll get training in scientific methodologies and from a variety of professionals, including academics, police officers and lawyers. The programs are very intensive and include placement opportunities at diverse organizations, in addition to a final year forensic research project.
FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE
- Appropriately handling, packaging, and recording relevant details of crime scene artifacts
- Taking careful original measurements based on established practices and regulations
- Operating advanced scientific laboratory equipment and instruments
- Understanding chemical/molecular/biological properties in terms of their relevance to forensic science
- Integrating legal considerations into specific scientific fields with an emphasis on adhering to stringent ethical standards
- Understanding legal structures and the organization of the criminal justice system from historical, sociological, and legal perspectives
- Implementing appropriate techniques for studying material evidence
