This degree blends technical expertise with management skills, teaching you the skills needed to manage construction projects. If you are interested in becoming a construction manager, ensuring that projects are completed on time, to budget and to a specified quality, this course is ideal. It combines an emphasis on management with grounding in the technical aspects of construction and engineering. You spend time in the laboratories looking at practical aspects of the subject, such as: surveying techniques; how to run tests on building materials; and design and construction techniques. Our hands-on approach puts you in real-life situations. Work experience opportunities and residential field trips help cement the principles of surveying. We have good contacts with the construction industry. You spend your third year on a work placement in the industry, which gives you valuable experience.
Coursework is designed to be achieved within the set amount of learning hours for each module and is appropriate to the level of study. We encourage a professional work ethic, which includes how to manage your time. A range of additional support is available to students who require it via the Academic Support Centre and personal tutors. Our course teams also draw on the wealth of experience provided by our professional contacts and highly successful alumni who feed into the design of our courses and provide master classes and workshops to enrich your learning. The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing has a specialist employability team. It provides friendly and high-quality careers and recruitment guidance, including advice and sessions on job-seeking skills such as CV preparation, application forms and interview techniques. Specific advice is also available for international students about the UK job market and employers' expectations and requirements.
