The earth science education program is one of four secondary science programs (also including biology education, chemistry education and physics education) offered at UD to prepare future high school science teachers. The programs are accredited by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education). The earth science education major is housed in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, the home to earth science at UD. The University of Delaware has a strong tradition of recognizing the importance of preparing high school teachers with a strong liberal arts and content backgrounds. Secondary science education majors complete all their field experiences and student teaching at one of Delaware’s fastest growing school districts. Students have three teaching field experiences during their sophomore, junior, and senior years, culminating with a fifteen-week student teaching practicum.
