Both thesis and project options are available for the major in plant sciences, each guided by a graduate committee consisting of the major professor and two or more other faculty members. Studies are possible across a wide variety of crop commodities, including fruits, vegetables, weeds, cereals, grains, turfgrass, ornamental plants, and public horticulture. Plant sciences students can undertake research to address challenges related to plant protection, molecular biology, breeding, genetics, biotechnology, physiology, ecology, culture, and management. Students must select a formal concentration as a focus of study.
The plant genetics and biotechnology concentration is designed for students wishing to pursue advanced degrees in plant molecular biology, bioenergy, and biotechnology and/or careers in the plant biotechnology industry. For example, the curriculum will prepare students to be competitive for entrance into MS and PhD degree programs, which in turn, prepare students for life as professional scientists. Alternatively, the plant biotechnology industry and biotechnology-affiliated industries have recurrent demand for competent BS-level scientists. One hallmark of the degree is requirement for students to participate in research directly in an affiliated faculty member’s lab or outside internship. This hands-on experience is reported by students to be a highlight of their degree program

Research in plant biotechnology with agriculture research companies Graduate school for M.S. or PhD. degrees Work in the areas involving tissue culture and transformation, recombinant DNA and molecular biology, protein and nucleic acid biochemistry, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting agency, recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEEA). A non-U.S.?degree must be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from the United States and must be granted by a recognized or accredited foreign institution. United States degree holders must have earned a minimum of 2.7 out of a possible 4.0 GPA or a minimum of 3.0 during the senior year of undergraduate study. If you have completed previous graduate coursework, you must have earned a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 GPA. Minimum score requirements for admission to the Graduate School are: a total score of 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT), a 6.5 overall band score on the IELTS.
