If you are passionate about people, then our Bachelor of Human Services (Counselling) will put you on the right path to working with your community. With an emphasis on preparing you for counselling employment, this degree will equip you with the skills necessary to manage the demands of a modern counsellor and human services practitioner. You will be taught by experienced counsellors with a practical focus, providing you with a solid foundation to work in community organisations.
Practical experience
You will gain valuable experience in diverse community and welfare settings by completing a minimum of 400 hours of professional experience placements. Students will be required to provide the following to USQ:
- current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check Certificate
- a current Blue Card from the Queensland Government Commission for Children and Young People and Young Guardian
- immunisations may be required in order to attend particular settings.
Professional accreditation
Graduates of the Bachelor of Human Services who have completed all eight units within Counselling major who have successfully completed one counselling field placement will be eligible for Level 1 membership with the Australian Counselling Association. It's necessary to have attended certain residential schools if you are aiming to become a professional counsellor and/or join professional counselling associations.
Career outcomes
Our graduates are highly competitive in securing permanent positions as community development workers, child safety officers, counsellors, project officers, welfare workers, and support workers in both government and non-government areas.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Students must have completed Senior High School Certificate with 70% or equivalent. Applications are based on comparisons with Australian Year 12 level examinations. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
