Do you desire to fly and become a pilot? With USQ's Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) you will have the chance to take to the skies in your first year, continue your flight training in your second year and you will only study courses that are directly relevant to your profession, unlike many other Aviation degrees offered. Our Aviation lecturers share your passion for this industry and have many years of experience in the Aviation industry.
You will study both technical and non-technical Aviation areas and it is these non-technical skills such as multi-crew cooperation, safety management systems and international aviation that makes the difference when you are being interviewed for your first job! In first year you will study aviation courses as well as take your first foray into the sky as a pilot! In second year you will conduct the majority of your flying training and then complete the rest of the degree either on-campus or online in your third year.
After completing your first year of study you will be able to undertake your formal flight training with a flight school that is a Registered Training Organisation. You will be responsible to that organisation for any fees or costs associated with flight training. For the applicable VET registered diplomas (or equivalent), the University will grant eight units of block credit for the second year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations major). The applicable VET registered diplomas are:
AVI50215 – Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane)1 or
AVI50315 – Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter)1
What you will need
Besides from your favourite pair of aviators, to hold a commercial Pilot licence (and to begin your training towards a commercial pilot licence in second year) you will have to:
- obtain a Class 1 medical certificate (from Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA))
- undertake a Pilot aptitude assessment (available commercially) and an interview (through USQ Aviation)
- obtain a USQ Aviation uniform.
Professional accreditation
Once you have successfully completed your flight training, The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority will issue your Commercial Pilot Licence, an Instrument Rating, Multi-engine endorsement.
Career outcomes
When you graduate, you will be legally qualified to work as a professional pilot. Some airlines offer cadetships or traineeships and the Australian Defence Force also looks for potential pilots. Other aviation careers include flight instructors, tourism operators, large rural farming operations. Our Aviation staff have strong links with Australian Defence Force and industry to provide you with industry networking opportunities.
Securing a role as a commercial pilot is highly competitive. Different countries and airlines may have different requirements for pilots. If you are planning to work as a pilot in a foreign country, you should research and consider the foreign country's and relevant airlines' pilot licence and employment requirements before selecting this major.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Students must have completed Senior High School Certificate with 70% or equivalent. Applications are based on comparisons with Australian Year 12 level examinations. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
