This program focuses on the fundamentals of green energy and illustrates how solar, wind and other clean sources can be efficiently integrated into power systems. Students will be trained in power engineering topics such as power electronic converters, machines, control coupled with modules related to renewable energy sources. The job market for green energy jobs continues to grow at a pace 12 times as fast as the U.S. economy, leaving employers looking to hire appropriately trained workers. Potential careers in this rapidly evolving area encompass industry sectors ranging from solar, wind and smart grid technologies.
Degree Specializations
An MS in EE will lead to a specialization in one of the following:

If you wish to fulfill the MS degree requirements by means of a thesis, you must first find a faculty member who shares your interest in a topic and is willing to supervise your efforts. This person will constitute the committee that must ultimately read and approve your work. Each thesis must be successfully defended in an oral examination.
A limit is imposed by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) on the number of thesis credits which are applicable toward graduate degree requirements. For the MS degree with a thesis, a maximum of six credit hours for thesis (plus at least 24 credit hours of course work) may be applied. A minimum of 3 credit hours of thesis work is required. You should register for EE 599 while you are working on an MS thesis.

Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
