Arts management matters because the arts manager is the final mediator between art and the public. The challenge today is finding ways to forge independent links between each artwork and its true audience, while negotiating the increasingly complex legal, political and economic bonds that constrain the management of the arts. Our curriculum increases the student's ability to identify and solve these complex, interdisciplinary tensions that are inherent in arts management and cultural policy making.
The UB Arts Management Program is a two year, comprehensive, experiential program that enables students to build their own future and develop their career paths.
It offers essential training in management skills – such as Law, Marketing, and Nonprofit Management – as well as the tools to frame and implement a greater cultural vision. Our core goal is to equip students with a mindset that enables them to cultivate meaningful and creative relationships between the arts and society through programming, cultural production, and development.
The program embraces all arts fields. We promote dialogue across established disciplinary lines and institutional formats. We value creativity, foster diversity, and encourage an international perspective towards collaboration.
We confront the multifaceted transformations of contemporary culture in a digital era. We analyze prospective and present issues for the arts, which include evolving cultural settings, audience expectations, and cutting edge artistic practices.
