Our master's program in education studies can be taken as is or designed and tailored to meet your interests, as well as your professional and academic needs. This program of study is targeted for those whose goals are broad, interdisciplinary and flexible. You can pursue a focus area that allows you to take maximum advantage of courses and resources in the Graduate School of Education. You have the option to create your own multidisciplinary focus area from within our school and across our departments.
Learning and Instruction Focus Areas
Education Informatics Focus Area
The education informatics focus area is for you if you are interested in studying how information can be used to inform our knowledge of learning and education. You will develop the understanding and skills necessary to become leaders in applying information to address the needs of formal and informal learners. Our program prepares you to organize, analyze and disseminate information to facilitate educational and organizational objectives, as well as how to improve people's use of information.
Why the Education Informatics Focus Area?
This focus area is unique because it integrates expertise from our Learning and Instruction department, as well as our Library and Information Studies department. As a student in this focus area, you will:
- Learn how to organize, analyze, and disseminate information to facilitate educational and organizational objectives
- Study the pedagogy of information use
- Discover how to improve the ways that people use information
In addition, you can work with your academic advisors to create an individualized program of study within this focus area, based on your specific interests and needs.

Program Coursework
The specific coursework for each focus area varies. The following general requirements apply to all focus areas.
- You are required to complete a minimum of 32 credit hours of graduate study (16 of those 32 credit hours are required to be taken within GSE).
- A maximum of 6 hours of transfer credit of graduate courses, completed with grades of “B” or above from an accredited institution, may be included in your program if approved by your advisor and the department.
- You are required to pass a comprehension exam or complete a master’s project or thesis.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
