Why study Pharmaceutical Sciences BS/PharmD at UB?
The Pharmaceutical Sciences major is a unique interdisciplinary field. Areas of interest in pharmaceutical sciences range from the physical chemistry of pharmaceutical systems to biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacokinetics
The doctor of pharmacy degree (PharmD) is a professional degree that enables one to work as a pharmacist, interacting with patients and other health care practitioners about medications.
The BS/PharmD program combines three years of undergraduate study in pharmaceutical sciences and four years of graduate work in pharmacy. Two degrees are earned in only seven years: The BS Pharmaceutical Sciences BS degree and the PharmD Doctor of Pharmacy PharmD degree. The combined program shortens the traditional time to complete both degrees by one year. Due to courses in common to both degrees, the seven year BS/PharmD degree is one year less than if a student pursued the four year regular BS degree program, then pursued the four year professional PharmD degree program (total 8 years). A combined BS/PharmD degree is awarded after seven years. Application to the PharmD program is made following the second year at UB.
