Why study Biotechnology BS at UB?
At UB’s Biotechnology Program, students receive a high level of one-on-one training and faculty interaction that is exceptional. The Biotechnology Program is the only lab-based training program of its kind at UB, preparing students for a career in lab-based research or post-graduate studies. Our unique program of intensive, applied laboratory-based training courses allows our graduates to master an array of practical laboratory skills. UB’s Biotechnology Program incorporates concepts taught with functional application of theory, in an intensive laboratory setting, emphasizing real-life proficiency in the practice as well as the theory of biotechnology. The high level of hands-on laboratory training received in our program enables students to be prepared, upon graduation, to be immediately competitive in the biotechnology job market. Since our coursework focuses on skills and comprehension for a wide variety of laboratory techniques, graduates from our program are also exceptionally well-prepared for graduate studies or professional programs.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all requirements, the student will have knowledge to:
- Understand the theoretical nature of the science involved in medically related biotechnology research and practice
- Master specific laboratory skills relevant to careers in biotechnology
- Possess a working knowledge of basic biochemistry, immunology, cell and tissue culture, bioseparation techniques, molecular biology and genetics and their associated laboratory techniques
- Be familiar with the principles underlying their clinically relevant compounds, the principles underlying their clinical importance and how their presence is altered in disease
- Become adept at hands-on research, including hands-on research, including using online databases; understand the creation and testing of scientific hypotheses and critical evaluation of experimental data
Career Outlook
Opportunities for biotechnologists are widely varied, including research and development, quality assurance and quality control, regulatory affairs, patent law, marketing and sales, and employment is available in both the public and private sectors.

為來自中國的學生設(shè)計 Admission to UB’s freshman class is selective and is based in part on the quality of your secondary school academic record and the number of spaces available in the class. You should feel confident applying to UB if you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school to help prepare you to be successful at university. UB uses a 4.0 grading scale and we expect students applying here to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B or 83 on a 100-point scale. English Language Scores: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 70, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 523, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.0, the minimum score of PTE is 50, CAEL 70, CanTEST 4.5, Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) score 185; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score 185, IB Higher Level English a Literature 4, IB Higher Level English a Language and Literature 4.
