Understanding life processes can be approached through a quantitative study of protein networks and the interactions between individual molecules. This program emphasizes the connections between Physics and Biology at an early point and gives the student the tools to understand life processes from a new perspective.
If the student also takes the Organic Chemistry lab, this program will satisfy the requirements for admission to many medical schools.
Requirements
- The general requirements stated under Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
- 6 Prerequisite Courses: University Physics I and II, Modern Physics, Single Variable Calculus I and II, Multivariable Calculus.
- 10 Required courses in related areas: General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Introductory Biology I and II, Molecular Biology, one approved upper-level biology elective, Statistics for the Biological Sciences, one approved computer programming course.
- 7 Required courses in the major: Biophysics I and II, Intermediate Laboratory I, Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetic Theory I, Undergraduate Research.

To meet the English Language Proficiency requirements for admission, GW applicants should earn: A minimum score of 90 on the TOEFL; or A minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS; or A minimum score of 61 on the PTE Academic, A minimum score of 115 on the Duolingo English Test.
