在這里學(xué)什么?
Economics is a versatile major that develops analytical and quantitative abilities while learning about the functioning of the economy. A degree in economics is a good way to prepare for a wide range of career options. Economics examines how individuals and societies choose to employ scarce resources; it is not simply the study of money, as is sometimes mistakenly believed. The department offers elective courses on everything from government regulation of the economy to the economics of crime.
For students interested in seeking public policy training, the Department of Economics offers the BA or BS/MPP combined degree program. The program is selective and targets outstanding GW undergraduates. The combined degree program provides students a challenging curriculum substituting 12 graduate-level credits for upper-division undergraduate courses. This program allows students to save some credit hour costs, relative to getting separate degrees. To take full advantage of the program, it is very important interested students talk to the economics undergraduate advisor and the director of the MPP program as soon as possible (no later than the end of their sophomore year).
Students majoring in economics who have maintained a satisfactory academic record may apply for admission to the MPP program during their junior year. It will be necessary for students to conform to the established requirements for completing an application, including completion of the GRE. Upon admission, students are granted 12 credits of advanced standing, leaving them with only 28 credit hours to complete the MPP degree.
Admission to the MPP program (and hence the combined degree program) is determined by the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, so for any admission inquiries please reach out to the director of the MPP program. Once students are admitted into the MPP program, they may reach out to the economics undergraduate advisor regarding the appropriate course substitutions.
