The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Chemistry is designed to prepare individuals for teaching in secondary schools and community colleges, directing community outreach programs, corporate trainers, and laboratory directors just to name a few possible career paths. This program can be completed in a two-year full-time year-round program.
Since the primary career for graduates of the M.A.T. program is teaching in secondary schools, the program is designed to:
(1) permit a secondary school teacher with minimum training in chemistry to achieve certification for the teaching major in chemistry in the secondary school
(2) allow teachers already holding certification in chemistry to strengthen their training by taking advanced lecture and laboratory work in chemistry
(3) grant students with B.A. or B.S. degrees in chemistry, but with no education courses, to complete requirements for a secondary Indiana teaching certificate and strengthen their chemistry training.
