Epidemiology is the public health field that studies the distribution and determinants of disease. It is also used to help evaluate the efficacy of public health intervention and prevention programs, such as immunizations. The BSPH in Epidemiology at IUB is the first of its kind in the nation, opportunities in this field were limited previously to graduate and professional level students. The field requires a high comfort level with mathematics/statistics, computing, and science-based areas, such as Anatomy, Biology, and related health disciplines. Epidemiologists work closely with allied medical and health professionals and the BSPH at IUB provides for a "related content" track that includes most pre-professional course requirements as part of the courses that count toward the degree.
