The Master of Forest Biomaterials (MFB) is designed for working professionals who seek advanced study in the paper and allied industries but are not interested in pursuing a career in research. The master’s degree requires 30 or 36 credit hours; a thesis is not required. For students with one or more years of relevant industrial experience, 30 credit hours are required for the degree. For students with no employment experience related to the field of study, 36 credit hours are required. This program is currently focused toward paper science and engineering, but bioeconomy and allied industry interests can be accommodated as well.
PLAN OF STUDY
Students who have at least a year of relevant industrial experience are required to complete 30 credit hours. For students without relevant experience, 36 credit hours are required. It is expected that most students will be able to complete the requirements in two to three years, while maintaining employment.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The Master of Forest Biomaterials program is designed to address the needs of professionals employed in the paper and allied industries. Allied industries include but are not limited to chemical and equipment suppliers for the paper industry.
Enrolled students will be able to maintain their current job while pursuing this degree and, as employees, will be able to apply the knowledge they gain from courses and the independent project to their positions, thus enhancing their value as employees as they continue to participate in this program.
