The Master of Entomology is a non-thesis degree program; however, students may be required by their graduate committees to complete a project.
These are the program objectives:
To guide the graduate education of students preparing for professional careers To prepare students to be effective researchers, teachers and extension specialists in contributing to the advancement of entomology To maintain and improve the program’s leadership position nationally and internationally
Objective: To guide the graduate education of students preparing for professional careers
Students will be effective and responsible researchers, teachers and/ or extension specialists. Students will become capable professionals by actively participating in professional development training, becoming members in professional organizations, actively attending and participating in meetings, develop grantsmanship and submit grant proposals. Students are expected to be satisfied with the quality of the preparation they received for their professional careers
Objective: To prepare students to be effective researchers, teachers and extension specialists in contributing to the advancement of entomology
Students will demonstrate that they are independent researchers, and/or competent teachers or extension specialists in an area of study, by developing expertise in that area that allows them to make an original contribution to it Students will develop a comprehensive knowledge of previous and current research in their field of expertise Students will analyze and critically interpret research data Students will apply sound research methods and tools to problems in an area of study Students will communicate their scientific ideas and findings clearly and effectively in written and oral forms
Objective: To maintain and improve the program’s leadership position nationally and internationally
Program faculty are expected to continue to be nationally competitive by attracting high-quality students Program faculty are expected to provide effective mentoring that encourages students to graduate in a timely manner Program faculty are expected to place graduates in positions in industry and academics Program faculty are expected to maintain a nationally recognized faculty that is large enough and appropriately distributed across disciplines of entomology to offer students a wide range of fields of expertise
