The Bachelor of Business (Professional) includes a mandatory 12-month paid work placement. You'll benefit from Swinburne’s unique industry partnerships, gain invaluable full-time work experience and earn credit towards your degree. Gain core skills and knowledge in business, management and operations to prepare for roles in modern organisations. Select a major area of specialisation and combine with other studies become an entrepreneurial thinker in your future career. The course links theoretical and practical knowledge needed to operate effectively in diverse settings such as not-for-profits, government, small business and corporations. Participate in professionally focused, multidisciplinary projects during your final year of study.
Selected major: Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Differentiate a business idea from a tangible business opportunity and use innovation theory and techniques to maximise that opportunity. Develop strategic thinking and planning skills, explore business models, interpret sales and marketing opportunities, build an effective team and source capital funding.
Course structure
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Business (Professional) requires students to complete units of study to the value of 375 - 400 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.
Course learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Define and integrate theoretical principles applicable to a business discipline and apply those principles in a range of practices.
- Systematically review and critically evaluate research from a variety of sources in order to make informed judgements on options for innovatively solving a range of problems that arise in business contexts.
- Formulate creative solutions that are fit for purpose and demonstrate cognisance of the impact of business decisions on the environment, economy and society.
- Coherently articulate a line of reasoning demonstrating cultural sensitivity and apply a framework to analyse and offer solutions to ethical dilemmas.
- Communicate a range of business arguments by evaluating and implementing alternative communication strategies as appropriate to the audience.
- Build on and continuously develop the intellectual independence to be critical and reflective learners, cognisant of new technologies.
- Work collaboratively in diverse groups.
- Appraise workplace expectations and opportunities related to their discipline, and integrate their studies with professional practice to enhance their career readiness.
