Health information management and systems (HIMS) encompasses the business aspects of health services and the information systems used to plan, finance and evaluate patient care. The profession focuses on management principles, information systems, finance, legal and ethical issues, quality improvement, clinical data management, and the skills necessary to manage people and systems.
Curriculum
Students in this program are part of a small cohort of students that take courses together and receive individualized attention from faculty.
The health information management and systems (HIMS) program can be completed in eight semesters. Admission requirements and program prerequisites should be completed within the first two years. For these pre-professional years, students should follow the suggested scheduling plan available from or contact the school’s Student Services Office.

Possible careers
Graduates of the health information management and systems program (HIMS) are eligible for professional certification as a registered health information administrator and for additional certifications in specialty areas such as clinical coding, health care privacy and security, and quality improvements.

High school performance (class rank and GPA), including participation in accelerated programs like Honors, AP and IB. Other English Language Requirements: 550 or higher on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL).
