Medical anthropology is a subfield of anthropology that draws upon biological and cultural anthropology to understand human health and well-being. Medical anthropology is distinct from other health sciences in that it considers how human evolutionary history combines with people’s current cultural, economic and political contexts to shape variation in health and risk for disease.
In Ohio State's medical anthropology program, students develop the skills to effectively tackle today's most pressing national and global health challenges in multicultural settings.
Curriculum
Students can earn either a BA or a BS in medical anthropology. In either case, students begin their studies by completing the following prerequisite courses (or their equivalent as approved by the Department of Anthropology):
Introduction to Physical Anthropology Introduction to Cultural Anthropology Introduction to Practice of Statistics OR Introduction to Statistical Analysis
After completing the prerequisites, students will complete 33 hours of course work for the BA or 35 hours for the BS.
Possible careers
Medical anthropologists work in universities, hospitals and clinics, public health organizations, national and international health agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on health.
The BA option is ideal for students interested in graduate study in anthropology, public health, health policy, or other social sciences with a health focus; or careers in the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, the U.S. government or international NGOs.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants must have successful completion of the minimum college prep requirements. High school performance (class rank and GPA), including participation in accelerated programs like Honors, AP and IB. Other English Language Requirements: 550 or higher on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL).
