Overview
The five year MEng Software Engineering degree is an integrated Masters course, which augments the first three years of the BSc Computer Science with the professional skills necessary for constructing robust, secure systems. Students spend the start of the fifth year on a paid industrial placement. Organisations that recent students have been placed with include Skyscanner, Leonardo, Cadence, BlackRock and Satalia. Many of our students go on to secure an offer of employment from their placement employer.

- Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.
- Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the further learning academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.
- Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
- Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT on behalf of the Science Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Scientist.
Teaching and Learning
Lectures, Tutorials (practical's, laboratories), Coursework, (assignments, individual projects, group projects, essays, reports, presentations, log/journals, dissertation), Self-study are linked to lecture-based, resource-based and problembased teaching styles, to relate with motivational, assimilative, consolidative and evaluative phases of learning.
Approaches to teaching and learning are continually reviewed and developed with the aim of matching them to the abilities and experiences of students, with regard also for the subject area. Specific details about teaching and learning methods are provided in the appropriate module descriptors.
Assessment
The following assessment methods are used: Understanding, knowledge and subject specific skills are assessed through the range of methods reflected by written examinations, coursework assignments, software artefacts, group and individual projects, written reports and oral presentations. Diagnostic, formative, continuous and summative types of assessment aim to correlate with methods of assessment.
Approaches to assessment are continually reviewed. Specific details about methods of assessment are provided in the appropriate module descriptors.
