Overview
Our Engineering Physics degree looks at engineering applications of physics in areas such as Microelectronics, Optics and Electromagnetism. It will help you develop a creative approach to solving engineering-related problems.
The course includes practical, theoretical and skill-based studies in Materials Science, Electronics, and Computer Modelling. This Engineering Physics degree will give you the knowledge and skills required by both the industry and service sectors. You’ll also be well prepared for a career in research.
Accreditation
The honours degree in Engineering Physics is accredited by the Institute of Physics (IOP).
The course aims to: ? Provide students with up-to-date knowledge and skills in the engineering applications of physics. ? Provide students with the knowledge and skills relevant to the needs of modern industry and academic research in physics. ? Enable students to adapt and respond positively to rapid technological changes. ? Develop critical, analytical and problem-solving abilities and core skills in preparation for graduate employment in a variety of careers. ? Foster the development of a self-reliant and open-minded attitude which encourages lifelong learning in educational, work and social contexts.
Assessment
The assessment policy for the course incorporates a range of assessment types: informal diagnostic tests which determine preparedness for a topic or module; formative tests during modules which provide feedback on performance and are used to inform further development. Continuous assessment during modules and summative assessment at the conclusion of modules both contribute to the overall assessment and are used to measure formally achievement in specified learning outcomes.
Understanding, knowledge and subject-specific skills are assessed through a variety of means such as web-based tests (multiple-choice and short-answer), coursework assignments, unseen written examinations, laboratory reports, group and individual projects and presentations.
