在這里學(xué)什么?
Our MA Childhood, Youth and Social Policy degree explores children and young people's lives in diverse contexts. It critically examines current research on children, young people and families with reference to relevant theories and concepts in human geography and the wider social sciences.
The programme will develop your understanding of the key concepts and theorisations of childhood and youth, as well as enhance your knowledge on children and young people’s lives across the global north and south. It will also help to develop your skills in a range of research methods, especially those relevant to childhood and youth studies, youth development, and to young people’s ‘voice’. You will complete an independent research project on themes related to children, youth and/or families.
Our School of Social Sciences and Humanities offers a unique environment to study this subject, drawing on internationally-recognised expertise on children, young people and families within Geography and Environment, and Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy. The programme also includes research-informed teaching from the Centre for Research in Social Policy based in the School, who have developed the influential Minimum Income Standard for the UK, now with global reach. You will have seminars by prominent experts in this field, as well as the opportunity to envision your own research on key challenges and policy issues.
Previous students on MA Childhood, Youth and Social Policy have conducted original dissertation projects on a wide range of topics. These include statistical analysis of global child refugee data; interviews with teachers and education practitioners about SEND policy in the UK; analysis of the growth of online parenting platforms; and research capturing young people’s gendered experiences of sport.
Who should study this programme?
This programme has been designed for recent graduates in the social sciences, as well as government and voluntary sector employees, teachers, youth workers and local community representatives. It will extend your knowledge and skills in the field and prepare you for employment in diverse professional environments or further study via a PhD.
