Sociology is the study of human social behavior, the groups to which humans belong, and the interactions that occur within those groups. The aim is to help students recognize the relationship between their own experience and the broader social forces that shape the world.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociologists investigate the structure of groups, organizations, and societies, and how people interact within these contexts.

The Department of Sociology at Emory is a vigorous community of scholars. We engage in cutting-edge research, take pride in excellent teaching, and actively contribute to the University and wider community. Our undergraduate program aims to provide a challenging introduction to the discipline as part of a first-rate liberal arts education.
