Learn the tools, strategies and design thinking methodologies required to be an adaptive, multidisciplinary communications designer.
From day one, you are introduced to the professional design world, developing your craft in our state-of-the-art facilities under the guidance of industry leaders and established designers.
You will learn how to interpret design briefs and develop specialized skills in user experience (UX) design, web design and interactivity, and traditional skills in typography, branding and print design. You will benefit from Deakin’s networks and relationships within the design industry and have opportunities to include your work in exhibitions and showcases.
In your final year, you will take part in a collaborative industry project, working in a studio setting with industry and commercial partners. Experience resolving a real-world creative project from conception to completion will equip you with the in-demand skills that employers look for.
The Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) is formally recognized by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) so you will be up-to-date with the current industry practices and developments.
Course structure
To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication), a student must complete 24 credit points including:
10 common core units (11 credit points) 2 x level 1 Visual Communication units Select 2 x level 1 Visual Communication core options from a pool of 5 3 x level 2 Visual Communication units 6 open elective units Academic Integrity AAI018 Academic Integrity (0-credit-point compulsory unit)
Career outcomes
Our graduates are open to many career opportunities, including in the areas of advertising, graphic design studios, print houses, publishers, corporate companies who host in-house design services, government and private practices.

為來自中國的學生設計 Entry for applicants with previous Tertiary, VET, life or work experience will be based on their performance in: a Certificate IV in a related discipline OR a Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of a Diploma in a related discipline OR successful completion of relevant study at an accredited higher education institution equivalent to at least two Deakin University units OR other evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent for example relevant work or life experience. Other English Language Requirements accepted: IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (PBT) score of 550 Writing 4.5; TOEFL Internet Based: 65 Writing 21; CPE: 169 no band less than 169; CAE: 169 no band less than 169; PTE: 52-57 No less than 50 in each skill.
