Kickstart your career at one of Australia's leading podiatry schools.
La Trobe's Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) offers a world-class curriculum combined with a clinical program to prepare you for a career in Australia. You'll learn how to treat and manage conditions of the foot and lower limb, bone and joint disorders, plus neurological and circulatory diseases. Gain hands-on experience while completing over 1000 hours of work placements in community health centres, hospitals and at La Trobe's on-campus podiatry clinic. You'll complete either a major industry-relevant honours project or a research honours project in the final year of the course.
You'll learn:
Anatomy
Study the anatomy of the lower limb, foot and multiple body systems that function in this region
Biomechanics
Examine the mechanical principles of human movement and motor control with an emphasis on gait in health and disease.
Podiatric pharmacology
Learn the appropriate drug therapies and their potential benefits, adverse effects and complications.
Cutaneous (skin) pathologies
Undertake a comprehensive examination of dermatological conditions commonly encountered in podiatric practice.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8.
CAREER OUTCOMES
Podiatrists are in demand. Graduates can find work in the following industries:
Public health
Hospitals, community healthcare centres, government and non-government agencies.
Sports medicine and paediatrics
Graduates have the option of taking on further study to specialise in working with athletes and children.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) is conditionally accredited with the Podiatry Board of Australia (PBA). Professional membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 550 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 64 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 50 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component.
