Students who perform well, with a GPA of 5.0 or greater, during the Bachelor of Music degree may undertake a further year of full time (or equivalent part time) study to obtain an Honours degree. As a research degree student, you will be able to study almost any aspect of music using a research framework subject to the approval of the Program Convener. The project can be structured as a dissertation or as a creative work and exegesis.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Mastery of research methodology in music
- Mastery of advanced project planning skills
- Mastery of advanced written, oral and/or performance communication skills
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of music as a specialist area.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) There are a number of ways to gain entry to undergraduate programs at the University of Newcastle. You may be considered for admission on the basis of: a completed NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent – irrespective of age of qualification; completed or partly completed higher education studies; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate III (AQF level 3), excluding the Bachelor of Nursing; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2) in conjunction with meeting additional performance based selection criteria for the Bachelor of Music and associated combined degrees; completion of a recognised enabling program within a 10 year period preceding admission to the University; overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies. English language requirement: TOEFL paper-based test score of 500; TOEFL internet based score of 60; IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0; PTE GSE score of 50; Cambridge English: Advanced score of 52.
