Bachelor of Coastal and Marine Science
Is the ocean and coast part of your lifestyle? Are you wanting to learn about the marine environment?
The coastal and marine environment provides recreation, food, energy, and other resources, and needs to be sustainably managed in the face of an uncertain future. Australia is home to some of the most unique and diverse coastlines and marine ecosystems in the world.
By understanding the ecological, physical, conservation, societal and management issues they face – such as climate change, pollution, urbanization and conflicting users – we can help find solutions to these problems. When you study a Bachelor of Coastal and Marine Science you’ll be learning from experts in marine, coastal and ecological fields – giving you practical skills to make a difference to our world.
What you will study
Students will engage in contemporary issues in the marine environment from their first day at university, and the program culminates in a skills-based course and the integration of biology, ecology and management of the coastal zone that is underpinned by the NSW Coastal Management Act and Marine Estate Management Act.
Students will experience relevant field-based scenarios and engage with managers and policy makers from industry, government and the not-for-profit sectors. This will enable students to progress into a career that spans all sectors of the coastal and marine space.
You’ll gain the fundamental skills needed for a career in coastal and marine science which can be supplemented by a broad choice in minors – from traditional sciences to communication, social science and Aboriginal studies.
Career opportunities
