The Department of Education in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education (GGSE) prepares researchers, scholar practitioners, teacher educators, and educational leaders for positions in universities, school districts, community agencies, and the private sector. We have seven different research focus areas: Culture and Development; Language and Literacy; Learning, Culture and Technology Studies; Policy, Leadership and Research Methods; Science and Mathematics Education; Special Education, Disability and Risk Studies; and Teacher Education and Professional Development.
Once enrolled, students may add optional interdisciplinary doctoral emphases that include study in Applied Linguistics; Black Studies; Cognitive Science; Environment and Society; Feminist Studies; Global Studies; Information Technology and Society; Language, Interaction, and Social Organization; Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences; and Writing Studies.
The research master’s degree option prepares students to enter a doctoral program, either here or at another university. The professional master’s option is designed to enhance academic and research competencies of elementary or secondary school teachers and other educational leaders. All master’s degree course requirements are a subset of the doctoral requirements.
