Program Learning Outcomes for the BA Degree with a Major in Philosophy
Upon completing the BA degree with a major in Philosophy, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the general historical development of philosophy and develop an in depth understanding of at least one historical period or movement. Demonstrate the ability to read philosophical texts critically and with understanding of the problems and contexts. Demonstrate the cognitive and formal abilities to evaluate critically philosophical arguments. Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and logically their own views on a range of important philosophical problems. Students pursuing the BA degree with a major in Philosophy must complete:
- A minimum of 10 courses (30 credit hours) to satisfy major requirements.
- A minimum of 120 credit hours to satisfy degree requirements.
- A minimum of 60 credit hours outside of major requirements.
- A minimum of 6 courses (18 credit hours) taken at the 300-level or above.
