Train as a researcher on the EngD in Non-destructive Evaluation. Ranked 3rd in the UK (REF 2014), Warwick's School of Engineering will provide you with specialist guidance. With modules taught by academics from six partner universities, as well as input from industrialists.
Course Overview
The CDT (EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training) defines the areas of industrial interest, and from those, students can apply to the CDT for funding. Studnts can registaer for an EngD at any of the six universities, but the CDT will define a specific university/industrial member combination together with the topic to be studied. This is because the industry partner has to provide some resource to the project.
The student can be based either in the industrial company or at the University, whichever is most convenient, with most projects being based within the University in year 1 and at the company in later years. Within the University of Warwick, the student will be based in either the School of Engineering or the Department of Physics, depending on the topic of interest and academic supervisor.
Prospective students have to apply to the CDT directly initially, and if accepted they can apply to be admitted to the EngD degree at the relevant University.
The EngD requires the student to attend and pass a series of training modules, run by various members of the CDT consortium, and which change from one year to the next depending on availability of training staff.
Overarching research themes
Our organisational structure connects our research with our study programmes to ensure quality research-led teaching. We have four disciplines shaping our framework, they are; Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Electronic, Mechanical and Process, Systems and Information. In this instance, an EngD student will be based in either the Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical and Process streams.
Teaching and Learning
The EngD requires students to attend training events as part of the CDT. These vary from year to year, but the EngD degree requires students to pass these training modules. These are taught predominantly by academics from the six partner universities, but also with input from industrialists. The CDT defines which modules, and which order they are taught in, and details can be obtained from the coordinator.
