Advanced training in research methods preparing you for PhD study.
The MSc Social Science Research Methods will provide you with advanced training in research methods across the full range of the social sciences. All course pathways have ESRC recognition and meet the training requirements for ESRC PhD funding.
This programme offers extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary study, the application of social research expertise for occupational career development, and the pursuit of substantive area of interest at postgraduate level.
You’ll be provided with a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of how to construct effective research studies, of the variety of data collection methods available to the social scientist and of the principal methods of analysing social scientific data. You’ll also be introduced to the political and ethical frameworks within which social science research is conducted, and to some of the ways in which the results of social science research are disseminated.
Environmental Planning pathway
Take the opportunity to study an area of Environmental Planning best suited to your personal interests, such as sustainable transport policies, planning for sustainability, or sustainable food systems.
You will benefit from the leading role the School of Geography and Planning plays in academic and policy debates at national and international levels with research-led teaching that inspires students to critically engage with the challenges facing our world. Supervised by experts in the field you’ll be encouraged to explore the seminars and events offered by our diverse Research Groups.

為來自中國的學生設計 You will need successful completion of a relevant four year bachelor's degree from a recognised institution, with grades of approximately 80% or above and possibly also successful completion of a relevant master's course from a recognised institution. IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each subskill.
