Our MRes Law and Society places emphasis on the doctrinal, theoretical and contextual study of law, and your self-understanding as a participant in the practice of legal scholarship.
This course places emphasis on the doctrinal, theoretical and contextual study of law, and your self-understanding as a participant in the practice of legal scholarship.
You will explore the application of law and legal research in society, and develop advanced skills in legal research methods and analysis of law and legal issues. This programme provides ideal preparation for PhD studies.
We were ranked 10th for research intensity in a recent national assessment, with **** of our research rated as world leading or internationally excellent.
MRes Law and Society is one of a very few programmes accredited for 1+3 funding under the South East ESRC Doctoral Training Centre scheme. Thrive as part of a very small cohort of high-calibre students, and undertake sustained training in methodological approaches to legal research.
You will have full access to the University library, student common room, and all the other facilities available to Reading Law students.
WHAT CAREER CAN YOU HAVE?
This programmes leads to practice at the Bar, legal practice and further academia.
A postgraduate law degree will open many doors not only in specialised areas of employment, such as law firms, European and intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), but also in academia (with further postgraduate study), the media (journalism and broadcasting), the civil service, and other branches of public service.
Graduates from our LLM course have gone on to work for various national and international law firms, as lawyers and as in-house legal counsel for large multinational companies in the UK and abroad, as well as international organisations and NGOs. A good proportion of our recent graduates are working with the European Union, the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Police (INTERPOL), amongst others.
