Demand for advanced expertise in biostatistics continues to be high in both the public and private sectors, particularly in settings emphasizing research in biomedicine and biotechnology. The masters' programs in Biostatistics provide advanced training in the theory and application of statistical methods in public health, clinical medicine, and the biological sciences.
The A.M. in Biostatistics is a program designed to prepare students for work in research firms, hospitals, academic centers, pharmaceutical companies, etc. This program can be completed in 3 or 4 semesters and requires a sequence of 8 courses.
The Sc.M. in Biostatistics is a program designed to prepare students for the same work as the A.M. program with the addition of extended research training suitable for Ph.D. programs or other research work. The Sc.M. requires a sequence of 8 courses and a final research project/thesis.
Data related to health and life sciences has never been more challenging and complex. Biostatistical data scientists with rigorous methodologic training, experience in modern computing and collaboration, and involvement in domain research are in high demand in the health sector and beyond! Students in the Biostatistics Master's Health Data Science track will receive in-depth training in biostatistical theory and methods, augmented by specialized training in modern data science techniques.
In addition to core curriculum in biostatistical theory and methods, students in the Health Data Science track will receive training in modern data science techniques. These methods include machine learning techniques including but not limited to Classification Methods, Resampling Techniques, Support Vector Machines and Supervised and Unsupervised learning. In addition to machine learning, students will become proficient working with various programming languages including, R, Python, Julia, and SQL.
