Leadership is an essential quality in building loyalty, trust, and teamwork. By setting the right objectives, communicating strategies and ideas, and executing projects successfully, accomplished leaders exceed goals and inspire meaningful change within their organizations.
The MSL develops specific skills for effective, organizational leadership in the military as well as in private, public, government, or nonprofit sectors. Emphasizing sociological and psychological content, the rigorous and intensive curriculum builds on students’ interdisciplinary backgrounds and provides the knowledge to lead, direct, and leverage assets. Topics include: Decision-making and strategy; Project management techniques; Project communications management; Organizational dynamics and group behavior; Historical leadership perspectives and issues; Diplomacy and negotiation; Economics and culture; Project risk and cost management, program management, and financial concepts; Communication skills.
Learning Outcomes: Advanced knowledge of historical and theoretical practices in leadership, in order to effectively function and advance in various types of organizations under different leadership models, and in situations of organizational change; Proficiency in leadership-related areas, including organizational behavior and culture, change management, strategic and tactical management, ethics, teamwork, team building, communications processes, motivation, and conflict management; Competence sufficient to identify, analyze, evaluate, and propose solutions, as well as alternatives, to various complex business and management problems using analytical and critical-thinking skills as well as research capabilities; The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while demonstrating competence in effective verbal and written communications, including individual and group presentations.
