The Master of Education in English & Language Arts Education provides advanced study for educators with initial licensure seeking professional licensure and those interested in working outside of the US public school system. Students in the EdM program prepare for careers as teachers, supervisors, department chairs, curriculum developers, and consultants.
The master’s program prepares teachers to serve economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse middle and high school students by emphasizing recent research and successful practices in English and language arts education. EdM students study English and American literature, research on language development, classroom teaching methodology, and service to schools and children. The program focuses on research findings that help improve instructional methodology, materials, and curricula. Students will examine the art and the craft of teaching language and literature.
EdM Requirements
Coursework (36 cr)
SED RS 600 Introduction to Research (4 cr)
Three courses in education (12 cr)
Four graduate-level courses in English (16 cr)
One elective course chosen in consultation with the student’s academic advisor. With advisor approval, electives may include courses at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. (4 cr)
