The offered MSc programs are a standard MSc in Computing Science, an MSc in Computing Science with specialization in Statistical Machine Learning and an MSc in Computing Science with specialization in Multimedia. The standard MSc in Computing Science is offered as a thesis-based program, as well as course-based program; the MSc in Computing Science with specialization in Statistical Machine Learning is offered as a thesis-based program; the MSc in Computing Science with specialization in Multimedia is offered as a course-based program.
Statistical Machine Learning emphasizes the theoretical aspects of the design and analysis of machine learning algorithms using tools of statistics and computer science.
Students can alternately apply to the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences to participate in this program.
Students are required to complete ★18 in coursework and a thesis.
Coursework (★18):
Courses are to be chosen in consultation with an advisor and approved by the Associate Chair (Graduate). Courses must include:
- Five ★3 graduate-level courses approved for this specialization
- At least one ★3 course must be through the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences
- At least one ★3 course must be through the Department of Computing Science
- Normally two of the five courses must be at the 600-level.
- CMPUT 603 (★3)- Teaching and Research Methods
Thesis:
Registration in 900-level THES. The thesis must be in an area associated with Statistical Machine Learning. The thesis topic is to be approved by the supervisor.
Length of Program:
Master's students are expected to complete their program in less than two years.
The maximum time to complete the thesis-based MSc program as set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is four years.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 The Faculty's minimum admission requirements for the master's thesis and course-based programs are a four year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, in physical education, kinesiology, recreation or another related degree, with a minimum admission grade point average of 3.0 on most 4.0 grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on the most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent).
