COVID-19 update: All Harvard Extension School (HES) spring courses are now online.
By using social science research methods, you'll investigate how to make people and organizations more effective. You’ll study people, workplaces, and organizations to better align competing needs and create healthy, productive, and mutually beneficial relationships between people and organizations.
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES
Through the master’s degree program in the field of industrial-organizational psychology you:
- Study the core elements of psychological and management theory, including personality, social psychology, organizational behavior, motivation, and human resource management.
- Develop an advanced understanding of quantitative analysis, psychometrics, psychology of diversity, leadership, talent development, and workplace well-being.
- Gain critical industry insights and preparation through case studies, group projects, and active learning experiences from Harvard instructors and professional experts.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The degree program includes 12 courses, with at least three taken on campus. Weekend options available.
- Get started. You begin by completing three degree courses as outlined in the degree requirements. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your commitment and ability to perform well as a Harvard student.
- Apply to the program. While you are completing your third degree course, you submit the admission application. We have application cycles in the fall, spring, and summer.
- Continue your studies, online and on campus. As you progress through the program, you choose from courses offered on campus or online, year-round in the fall, spring, or summer. You complete at least three courses on campus.
- Capstone track option. In the Applied Psychometrics Capstone, you’ll explore a range of psychometric tests used in occupational settings (specifically, intelligence, neuropsychological, achievement, aptitude, vocational, and personality tests). You’ll gain practical experience by learning to administer, score, interpret, and provide feedback to participants.
- Graduate with your Harvard degree. You participate in the annual Harvard Commencement, receiving your Harvard University degree: Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in Extension Studies, field: Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
