Global British Studies is an exciting field that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Britain in a global context over the past two centuries. The programme will challenge assumptions that Britain simply made the modern world and instead encourage students to unravel complex and at times contradictory ways in which an imperial metropole like Britain has been connected to the rest of the world. In light of Brexit and public debates on British identity and the legacies of Empire, this programme provides historical perspectives on some of the biggest contemporary questions.

The MA in Global British Studies encourages interdisciplinary inquiry and its rigorous approach will be of particular benefit to those planning to pursue doctoral work, preparatory to an academic career. Gaining a recognised postgraduate qualification with strong analytical skills and a global perspective will furthermore prepare you for many career paths beyond academia, including journalism, the civil service, international NGOs and business.
