The Kinder Institute and College of Arts & Science at the University of Missouri are pleased to launch MU’s one-year M.A. in Atlantic History and Politics, in Fall 2020. We will begin reviewing applications for the next cohort of M.A. students at the application deadline of January 15, 2021.
Beginning in July 2021, the M.A. will kick off with a month of study at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, where students will earn the first nine credits associated with degree. Following that, students will spend the academic year at the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri, where they will immerse themselves in the remaining 21 credit hours of interdisciplinary study of history and political science, with course credit available for internship opportunities in research, public history, and academic programming.
The M.A.’s curriculum examines the connections and conflicts among the diverse peoples of the Atlantic basin, including the Americas, Africa, and Europe. The courses that students can apply to the degree likewise cover a broad sweep of time, from the dawn of European empires through the age of revolutions, into the more recent “American century.” The program situates the development of modern nation-states, including the United States, in relation to the broader exchange of ideas, goods, and power across the Atlantic world.
Graduates of the program will acquire an appreciation of the entanglements and conflicts that have defined the histories of the peoples in the greater Atlantic world. They also will leave the program with refined faculties of critical thinking, crisp writing skills, and verbal agility—traits coveted by employers in a range of professions.

為來自中國的學生設計 Minimum Admission Requirements: Have earned a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Have earned a 3.0 or better GPA in the last 60 hours of baccalaureate coursework (for applicants with less than a master’s degree). Language Requirements: TOEFL Internet-based - 80 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 17 each), IELTS Academic - 6.5 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 6 each), PTE - 59, Cambridge C1 Advanced - 180.
